There was a slow, easy drift of prices on the Stock Exchange yesterday, with no indication of interest on the part of traders. The turnover was 1,128,000 shares, compared with 1,465,000 the day before. The combined averages fell about 1/4 point and the industrial averages less than 1/2 point.

Business on the Stock Exchange yesterday was based upon the prospect that, as a result of the government's decision to go into the world market for gold in a large way, share prices would have to be moved higher. It did not work out exactly that way yesterday, but the slow business was carried on in the morning to the accompaniment of a moderate advance in stock and commodity prices.
